Benson was our much-loved Border Terrier whose spirit, courage and joy touched countless lives. This page celebrates his story and the incredible journey he made on four paws — and two wheels.

Benson was born on 19 February 2006 and stayed with us until 22 July 2022. He was fit and healthy until a herniated disc on 18 April 2010 left his back legs paralysed; after surgery and two weeks in hospital he never regained use of them, but he was never in pain. With a custom set of wheels he found his freedom again — racing across fields, beaches (seen here on West Sands, St Andrews) and woodland, always with his tennis ball close by — and those wheels gave him twelve extra years of a happy, loved life that inspired so many. After he passed we set up a memorial GoFundMe for Winston’s Wheels, a UK charity that provides wheelchairs for dogs who need them, and thanks to the generosity of the #BTPosse, raised over £4,800 in his name.
